Is Klarna in trouble with the ICO?

According to BBC News, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) is investigating retail payment and fashion financial services provider, Klarna for a possible breach of data protection laws.

Klarna to be scrutinised by the UK’s Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

Happy to be corrected by GDPR experts, but the ICO may have its hands tied, as this seems like a legal basis for data processing issue, where Klarna can claim legitimate interest.

Key will be if the ICO also deem Klarna failed on process – which seems likely in this case.

On another note, its PR for a service which has been growing in popularity, driven by the growth in fast fashion. Giving our current economic situation, it may seem an attractive alternative payment option this Christmas.
